Cellulite is a female secondary sex characteristic and should be celebrated as a rite of womanhood, not despised or eradicated.
it’s really a secondary sex characteristic?!
It is. It has to do with the way our bodies network fat. Female bodies create sort of a mesh network to support fat (female bodies are MUCH more hardy in times of stress) and it can present as delightfully lumpy. More than 90% of women have visible cellulite, but all women store fat in this manner.
why did no one tell me this?!
You know why :/
Spread this. I only just started to see mine and I started to freak out a bit. More people should/need to know about this
Here’s an illustration of the aforementioned difference in fat storage.
Men’s lattice pattern collagen threads holds subcutaneous fat in a way that, when the skin expands because of the fat storage, it expands evenly. Women’s “pockets” expand unevenly when we accumulate fat, creating that orange peel effect. Our storage pattern means we can healthily store more fat than men. Like a woman with 25% body fat is average, a man with 25% body fat is chubby. Because of that, like OP said, women are hardier in times of stress or famine. It’s also one of the reasons why our bodies can survive pregnancy, which is a massive energy demand on our system.
And there’s absolutely NO “treatment” for cellulite that will work. They are all bullshit designed to separate you from your hard-earned cash. It’s a secondary sex characteristic, it’s perfectly normal and it’s not going away no matter what you do. Like I’m very lean myself and I work out 5~6 times a week, and I still have cellulite. Someone giving a woman shit for having cellulite is akin to giving her shit for having skin. It’s just a mixture of misogyny and corporate greed.
Love your lumpy skin, ladies. It means you are a badass surviving machine shaped by millenia of evolution.
I did not know this, and I pride myself on knowing shit like this.
some of you never played online dressup games while sitting in a huge beat up desk chair while being yelled at by your mom when you were kids and it shows. grow up
I heard something the other day that I had never really thought about before. Someone mentioned to me that whenever you catch yourself missing someone who left your life, you should remind yourself that them not being part of your present is a choice they make every day. They wake up and decide to maintain the silence. They’re indifferent as to whether the space between you gets larger. And that in itself is pretty powerful closure.
Vet clinics often have litters of kittens to raise. Either they’re too young for a shelter, too sickly, or the clinic intends to adopt them out when they’re big enough. Whatever the reason, nurses often end up raising kittens and giving them ‘temporary’ names.
The intention of these temporary names is that if you give the kitten a stupid name, you have something to call it other than ‘the middle black male’, but because it’s a stupid name you wont get emotionally attached and end up keeping it. Again.
Which is how some nurses end up with cats that have names like ‘Flea bus’ and ‘Trash bag’.
Rick Riordan is also using his money and fame to lift marginalized authors. He started a whole imprint called Rick Riordan Presents. The books published there have mythology and folklore from all over the world, and they’re written by authors who actually belong to those cultures. The first three books announced have stories based in Korean, Mayan, and Indian cultures, written by Yoon Ha Lee, Jennifer Cervantes, and Roshani Chokshi respectively.
Rick Riordan is pretty fucking cool. Ive never seen a YA put as much care and effort into growing as a writer, specifically with a focus on increasing diversity, as him.
The fact that he’s a UT alum from San Antonio who taught middle school English just warms my heart.
PLEASE click on the link to his Stonewall acceptance speech my god you won’t regret it
today in “youtube’s recommendation algorithm completely misunderstands what i’m interested in”: i am recommended a channel consisting entirely of livestreams of a creepy dude sitting in a corner and just staring at the camera for 4 hours, 3 times a week
a robber broke into his house and he didn’t stop recording and the robber got so creeped out he left. the video is on his YouTube somewhere
“This episode of Sitting and Smiling features a very special guest. About 2.5 hours into the webcast, I hear someone come into the house, which is odd, because my only housemate is at work, and we aren’t expecting anyone. I realize I didn’t check to see if the doors were locked before starting the webcast. I hear the person stealthily moving around the house, and then I hear them stealthily climbing the stairs, towards my room. My door opens, and I hear an unfamiliar male voice say “Hello?”. Then, after presumably seeing me sitting still and smiling in front of a camera, lit from beneath by a florescent bulb, he promptly descends the stairs and exits the house.
You can see this happen at 2:36:30
As it turns out, the doors were locked, and he had broken one open. We found nothing missing, as there is not really anything of value in the house other than the laptop I was using to webcast.“
I’m howling
The robber legitimately thinks they just walked into a creepypasta and they made the wise choice of getting the hell out of there
hey staff why did all the adult artists get banned but I’m still surrounded by pornbots and terrible harem fantasy game ads with crying abused women in them, I know the answer is MONEY I just really wanted to bring it up and acknowledge how fucked that is
ignore the histories about certain races being evil
your material plane now
have fun
Ah yes, don’t try to get yourself absorbed in the world and make what would fit and be interesting, don’t try to be creative at all! Honestly what the point of playing d&d if you’re not gonna try to make your character feel like a part of the universe?
I’m not saving you can’t have fun with D&D, but I don’t understand having to ignore the universe in order to have fun?
the universe is bad, jim
Ah, I see. You’re one of the “steal things and be gay” type of people aren’t you
“I roll to seduce the mad alien demigod” said the Chaotic Neutral teifling twink bard to the exasperated DM.
i’m talking about restrictive gameplay and harmful race coding, you goddamn vultures, which, whether you like it or not, are actually problems.
when my friend wanted to play a teifling cleric, our dm told them that whenever she tried to heal people, she could risk hurting them, because her god rejected having a follower of infernal blood. it’s one thing to straight out refuse to let a player choose a specific character due to in game restrictions, but to PUNISH them is another thing.
this is what i was talking about, but you guys just had to come in and start whining about how people don’t play the game the way you think it should be played. you come into this post and get yourselves so worked up so you can make fun of other people for their characters as if your first character wasn’t a poorly disguised self insert too. newsflash, asshole: new players want a chance to express themselves, and along with that, have the opportunity to try out everything they can, so they wanna pick a character that’s fun, low stress, and easy to play. it’s not a fucking crime to dip your toes and try out a character that’s “overdone” or “embarrassing to play”, there’s a reason it’s popular in the first place! you guys are no better than the people who look down on players for making lawful good human fighters. you are all so terribly, incredibly mean spirited and are exactly the type of people who make the game so restrictive in the first place.
so trust me, you don’t have to worry about being caught dming players like this, or even being in the same party as you. they wouldn’t want to be around you rude bastards.
Most companies are probably going to continue their regular food safety procedures, but a few things you can do to reduce some personal risk:
Buy hard, solid veggies and fruits (apples, melons) or ones with rinds (bananas are probably fine). Scrub the peel/rind thoroughly with soap and water before consumption.
The more solid and dense the meat, the less likely it is for contamination to spread very far. Buy your meat in solid cuts, NOT GROUND. Especially not ground chicken rn, salmonella bad.
Cook things thoroughly. Follow guidelines for the internal temperatures meat is supposed to reach and stick to those guidelines. Use a meat thermometer. Make your steaks well done for a while.
I’d stay away from shellfish as a whole if I were you. The diseases you can get from it are some of the nastier ones. No sushi for a while, too. If you have fish, make sure it was frozen following anti-parasitic guidelines and cook thoroughly.
AVOID LEAFY GREENS. This is where we’ve been seeing the most outbreaks lately, so be very careful.
The pregnant, elderly, immunocompromised, and the very young are the ones most at risk in an outbreak. If you are in one of these groups, be extremely cautious and avoid soft cheeses and prepackaged deli meats. Check on friends and family in these groups. Report symptoms of foodborne illness to a doctor so they can report to the state health depts that are still running.
Even with these in mind, remember that most outbreaks of foodborne illness are due to things like improper cooking and storage. Stay safe out there, folks 💙
